Meet Tim Harry: Head of the Pequot Lakes Patriots Fishing Team
Tim Harry is a local small business owner (running Lake X Masonry) and the driving force behind the Pequot Lakes Patriots Fishing Team. When he discovered that the local youth fishing team had disbanded, he saw it as a worthy challenge. Knowing he had the time to dedicate, Tim kept asking himself, “If not me, then who?” He decided to take the leap and rebuild the program. Once he got the ball rolling, he heard at least three different people tell him, “I was gonna do that someday” - but Tim was the one who actually stepped up to the plate.
For Tim, this team is entirely about the student-athletes, and he is proud that 100% of the team's proceeds go straight to the kids. Growing up, Tim learned firsthand what it's like to fish without proper equipment, often having to scrounge for discarded soft plastics just to get by. Because of those childhood memories, he is incredibly passionate about putting quality gear into the hands of his team. He strongly believes that giving a kid a substandard rod or reel that fails on the water is the quickest way to make them think fishing "sucks," and he is dedicated to making sure that doesn't happen.
A proud grandfather of five, Tim has a deep love for teaching youth to fish because it makes the sport feel brand new again. Ever since taking his neighbor's son out on the water in 2019, he has cherished the opportunity to see the joy of fishing through a child's eyes.
Beyond his mission to support the community's youth, heading up the team comes with a few personal perks for Tim. For one, it gives him a great excuse to actually get his boat out on the water instead of letting it sit in the yard as a "lawn ornament." Furthermore, he secretly loves the process of organizing tackle packs—even if he spends hours meticulously setting them up, only to watch the kids empty the tote in a matter of seconds.
